The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The University of California, Los Angeles and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory invite applications for three full-time Postdoctoral Research Associates, to work on NASA and NSF projects in the following areas:
i) Snow Data Assimilation and Remote Sensing
ii) Field-based Research on Snow Distribution
iii) Hydroecology of Cold Regions
iv) Biogeochemical Cycling of Alpine Systems
The projects involve collaboration between researchers at UCLA and at NASA/JPL. Successful applicants will work with the PI's, colleagues, and other recent hires to develop integrated observing and modeling systems in the Sierra Nevada mountains and across Earth's cryosphere. Opportunities to participate in field-based research exist through a variety of NSF initiatives and through NASA JPL's Ground-based Observing Laboratory for the study of snow, Ice and Terrestrial Hydrology (GOLIATH). Both UCLA and JPL have active research groups in surface water and snow hydrology, and there will be opportunities for active involvement with these groups. The candidate may work jointly at UCLA/JPL or exclusively at either institution.
The position requires a Ph.D. in a related physical science or engineering field. Candidates with skills in either field-based research or in computer programming are encouraged to apply.
